First, let me just say this:
I constantly get requests to review or endorse the latest ‘DJ’ software. Hey developers: DJ’s are people with taste and talent, we can’t be replaced, so please give up.
It seems like every software company wants to put DJs out of business with apps that make it ‘easy’ for anyone to remix and mash-up tunes, and this completely misses the mark. Seriously, how many people want or need dozens of complicated features or have the patience to read a manual thicker than a Twilight novel? Not me.
But once in a blue moon, something really cool comes out and is worthy of praise and attention. ‘Jamble’ -- a new app for the iPhone and iPod Touch – falls into this category.
Jamble delivers on the promise: Mashups for the Masses. And believe me; this app sounds great and is pretty much idiot-proof.
I downloaded the light version for free and took it for a test spin. It comes with 9 loops that seamlessly blend together. Here’s how it works: click on an album cover, click on another and they instantly beat-match. Cool.
I quickly wanted more material to experiment with and downloaded the full version from the iTunes App Store.
Here is a quick overview:
• Comes with 24 Jams to play with
• Features an eclectic selection of artists like Blur, Bowie, The Pussycat Dolls, Gorillaz, Dirty Vegas, MC Hammer, Young MC, Rockwell and many more
• Super easy to use and the loops make for some surprisingly hip mashups
• Automatic beat matching makes the novice instantly sound great
Conclusion:
Well done Jamble Entertainment (the developers) and No Robots Interactive (the company that publishes the app): you clearly get it and everyone else will too. Easy, fun and addictive. My only complaint is that I would love to get more Loop Packs, but I heard these are coming soon.
Note: My reunion gig with Wood Daft in Düsseldorf has been postponed until later this summer due to Svend Ballrag’s recent relapse. Get well soon Bro, we are pullin’ for you. I will keep you all posted when we get the new date locked down.
PS: Kelly, if you are reading this – and I bet you are – it’s over girl. It was fun while it lasted, but it’s time to move on. Get over it.
